Personal Interests
- Family History
- Tony: my mother's family name is Dayrell-Stenning, and my
great-grandfather, Edmund Marmaduke
Dayrell (1835-1909), was the last of the Dayrells to
live in the manor house at Lillingstone Dayrell,
Buckinghamshire. The family had been there since the 12th
century, which is why the village is named after them.
The church is a veritable Dayrell museum, with many tombs
and other interesting memorials.
- My other family links are with the Stennings of East
Grinstead, Sussex, the Kings of Merstham, Surrey, and the
Busbys of Amersham, Buckinghamshire. According to the
census of 1891, some of the Busbys are recorded as living
in a house called 'The Hovel' on the outskirts of
Amersham! Needless to say, I could not find the house
when I tried to look for it.
- For those of you with a genealogical interest, my eight
great-grandparents are:
- James King (1840-1929), police inspector in
Reigate, Surrey. He married -
- Susan Merritt (1842-1923), originally from
Alresford, Hampshire.
- James Busby (1849-1918), carpenter in Amersham,
Bucks, and Rickmansworth, Herts.
- Emma Wicks (1850-1911), of Amersham was his wife.
- Frederick Stoveld Stenning (1845-1909), solicitor
in East Grinstead, Sussex. His first wife was -
- Sarah Haycock, about whom I know very little.
- Edmund Marmaduke Dayrell (1835-1909),
captain RN, of Lillingstone Dayrell, Bucks, and
later St Saviour, Jersey. His first wife was -
- Isabella Ann Holloway (1843-1882), originally
from Dublin.
- Concerts & Opera
- We both go to classical music concerts and operas
whenever we can. We are pretty catholic in our tastes,
and currently contemporary classical music catches our
fancy, especially compositions by James MacMillan,
Michael Berkeley, Diana Burrell and John Tavener. If
there are new works by these composers put on in London
or region, we do our best to get to them.
- Mathi

Mathi is our Border Collie, now
just over three years old. The photo shows her at three
months. We could have shown you lots of photos of her
ripping up plants in the garden, but we decided on an
innocent, cute one instead. |

Another picture of Mathi; a
watercolour done by Christina in 1999 on a beach in North
Wales. |
